What was your first job? I worked in a tea shop in my home city of Porto, Portugal. It offered more than 300 tea blends so it kept me on my feet!
What’s been your worst job interview? I once drove three hours to be told during the interview they were not allowed to hire women. Imagine that happening these days.
What was the first music single you bought? I was 12 and it was an album – Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers.
How do you describe your job to your mates? It’s such an unusual job, it’s hard to put into words. I’m usually in the gin lab playing with flavours. Their response is usually, “Oh my god, that sounds amazing!”
What is the most rewarding part of your job? The thing I love most is knowing I helped someone have a good time.
What is the least rewarding part? There are too many botanicals and not enough time!
What is your motto in life? Never say never.my
If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? I wish I could take a boat ride to work every day.
Do you have any phobias? Nothing in particular, but I am not fond of uninvited creatures inside the house.
If you could change one thing in grocery, what would it be? Plastic. It’s the burning question of the moment, but I don’t think we’re aware of the full-scale impact of what this will do.
What luxury would you have on a desert island? A copper still. At least then I could make gin.
What animal reflects your personality? Tricky – I would have to say a mother lion. A proud female leader.
What’s your favourite film and why? It’s a Wonderful Life by Frank Capra. I remember watching the movie and being overwhelmed by how someone’s actions can impact all the community.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? My one-time-only experience in karaoke. My friends don’t like to talk about it.
Which celebrity would you most like to work with and why? Jacinda Ardern, prime minister of New Zealand. Her leadership style and empathetic approach to crisis are truly inspirational.
What would your death row meal be? Seafood all the way!
