Matt Hunt, founder, The Protein Ball Co, on Disneyland Paris, spinning plates and Richard Branson
What was your first-ever job? It was at the age of 14, working on Romford Market for ‘Dave the Nut’ selling wholefoods. I used to bunk school to go to work - I loved the hustle and bustle of the market.
What’s been your worst job interview? For Disneyland in Paris when I was just out of uni. I thought I would ace it but missed the fact that you had to speak perfect French! Of course, I left with my tête down.
What was the first music single you bought? It was Bright Eyes by Art Garfunkel back in the 1970s - brings a tear to my eye even now!
How do you describe your job to your mates? Running The Protein Ball Co is a lot like running a circus - spinning plates, balancing awkward stuff and smiling while being shot out of a human cannon…
What’s the most rewarding part of your job? I love thinking of an idea or concept, sketching it out and six months later launching the idea and watching it grow.
What’s the least rewarding part? I really dislike doing paperwork and looking for receipts.
What is your motto? I live by the rule that you can do anything that you want to do in life. It helps if you know what you want to do!
If you were allowed one dream perk, what would it be? A half-day off a week with my wife and our two children would be amazing.
Do you have any phobias? I have a fear of competitors copying our brand and our ideas as soon as we launch. We always want to be ahead of the game.
What luxury would you have on a desert island? Wifey and our boys.
What animal most reflects your personality? An ant… an ant keeps on working, moves big things and never gives up.
What’s your favourite film? Good Will Hunting.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? I couldn’t say as it’s too rude and offensive for your readers! Let’s just say it involves a hotel lobby and nowhere to put my room key.
Which celebrity would you most like to work with? I’d like to work with Richard Branson. I think he would understand the workaholic side and encourage The Protein Ball Co to grow. Richard - if you are reading this, please call me!
