What was your first-ever job? As a teenager, I began my career washing cars for a garage.
What’s been your worst job interview? For an assistant buyer’s job in an engineering company in the Midlands. The buyer was not old enough to be close to retirement, but old enough to be immensely boring.
What was the first music single you bought? I always bought albums, rather than singles. An Atlantic sampler was my first, for 59p.
How do you describe your job to your mates? I made this pollen barrier balm stuff for my hayfever, and now I make a living out of it as well as helping loads of people manage their hayfever without drugs.
What’s the most rewarding part of your job? Receiving testimonials from happy customers. They click the feedback button on our website, they phone us up, and they even write to us to say how HayMax has changed their life.
What’s the least rewarding part? Couriers who don’t do their job properly!
What’s your nickname? Wizzbang.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? Free transport anywhere in the world.
What’s your favourite movie and why? O Brother, Where Art Thou? A great movie on so many levels, with a soundtrack to match.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? Allowing myself to be persuaded to tell a bunch of people I didn’t know very well one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. It was far more embarrassing than the situation I described!
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? Bruce Springsteen. He could write great songs about hayfever mentioning HayMax and tagging our retailers.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? Reduce packaging and increase recycling.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? A solar-powered Kindle full of books.
What animal best reflects your personality? My partner just said a camel. Maybe it’s because of the humps on my back. Or perhaps it’s the spitting. Or maybe she’d just prefer it if I was a long way away in the middle of a desert.
