What was your first-ever job? Paper boy throughout the village of Ely, Cambridgeshire, where I grew up.
What was your worst job interview? At 17 years old I got a job to help pay for fuel for my car so I could carry out my apprenticeship at Marshall Aerospace. It was at Little Chef for £2.77 an hour. If I ate there, they deducted 50p off an hour.
What was the first music single you bought? Spice Girls - Wannabe. I’m very proud to be a Spice Girls fan. I loved the reunion at the Olympics closing ceremony.
How do you describe your job to your mates? The best job in the world, very much like a rollercoaster.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? There are highs and lows. You have to enjoy the highs because the next low is just round the corner.
What is the least rewarding part? Missing my family - wife Jo and son Thomas.
What is your motto in life? Help as many people as you can.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? Richard Branson as my mentor.
What’s your favourite movie and why? It’s got to be Dirty Dancing for the feelgood factor.
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? At primary school, the boys and girls would line up separately to go in after break time. Once, I accidently walked in with the girls. In chorus all the teachers shouted: “You plonker Rodney.”
What’s your nickname? Dave, Trigger’s name for Rodney in Only Fools and Horses. I hate my name because of the Only Fools and Horses ‘Rodney you plonker’ association.
Do you have any phobias? Failure.
Which celebrity would you pick to join your staff?Cameron Diaz, as I would always want to impress her.
If you could change one thing in the grocery industry, what would it be? An increased appreciation of farm-produced produce rather than industry-manufactured produce.
What luxury would you have on your desert island?A magic genie.
What animal best reflects your personality and why? A horse, as I like to think I am always willing to carry people. I am also strong willed and social.
