What was your first-ever job? My first corporate job was with Volkswagen Audi Group. I worked in the Audi training department running sales and technical courses for the UK dealer network.
What’s been your worst-ever job interview? I applied for a job as a business coach to be told that they thought I would be ‘too much’ for some. I was shocked.
What was the first music single you bought? The Jam - In the City.
How do you describe your job to your mates? I don’t really need to describe it. They’ve seen me building it from spotting a gap in the market and developing the idea for my high street chain of tea cafés.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? The customers, especially our regulars. I’m really touched by their loyalty and belief.
What is the least rewarding part? Balancing the cash flow. I sometimes wish I could open 300 stores immediately.
What is your motto? Whatever it takes!
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? To travel first class to anywhere in the world, whenever I wanted to.
What’s your favourite movie and why? The Big Lebowski. It’s just hilarious. I could watch it over and over. I even named my pug dog The Dude!
What has been the most embarrassing moment in your life? I met Prince Charles at a polo match we sponsored in the Middle East years ago. I didn’t know whether to curtsy or shake his hand so I just did this rather fumbled bow and he laughed and said “that was interesting”.
Do you have any phobias? I hate the dark and I am not very good with heights.
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be and why? Ricky Gervais! I have the same ridiculous sense of humour. I think he is extremely clever, inventive and brave.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? The dominance of the big boys and the ability to be taken seriously and helped as a smaller player.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? Sencha Green Tea… and a kettle!
What animal best reflects your personality and why? A tiger sometimes they look calm and chilled but they can attack if provoked!
