What was your first-ever job? I was a till operator at a Shell service station.
What’s been your worst job interview? I once interviewed for a consulting firm. I tripped up on one of those classically impossible consulting questions something like “how many tennis balls are there in the world?”.
What was the first music single you bought? Not sure I’ve bought a ‘single’ - but I still know all the words to all the songs on Paul Simon’s Graceland, my first-ever album.
How do you describe your job to your mates? I get to hang out in coffee shops all day, drinking outstanding coffee, catching up with passionate and happy people who love what they do.
What is the most rewarding part of your job? Seeing someone try a really good coffee for the first time. There’s a ‘what-the-hell-have-I-been-drinking-my-whole-life?!’ epiphany.
What is the least rewarding part? It’s hard not to find meaning and reward in everything we do.
What is your motto in life? Always treat others as you wish to be treated.
What’s your nickname? In the best Aussie tradition of adding an o to almost everything, my family calls me “Nich-o”.
If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? A ticket to every Wallabies fixture. It’s been a number of lean years for us supporters, but good times are just around the corner.
What’s your favourite movie and why? I’ve got about 10! There are 1980s classics like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off or The Breakfast Club, or Aussie legends like The Castle or Priscilla, and life-defining blockbusters like the Star Wars trilogy.
If you could pick a celebrity to join your staff who would it be? Sir Richard Branson. Not so much on my staff, as a mentor who daily reminds me to never stop taking risks and trying new things.
If you could change one thing in grocery what would it be? Packaging. There always seems to be more than necessary.
What luxury would you have on your desert island? The internet. If only to see how the Wallabies are getting on. (And to Skype my mum, of course).
What animal best reflects your personality and why? A kookaburra, as they always sound like they’re having a good laugh at the world.
