Broadland Drinks is launching a ready-to-drink alcoholic, semi-sparkling cold brew tea.
Called Twistea, the drink will launch in four flavours: Blood Orange & Mandarin, White Peach & Mango, Lemon & Lime and Rhubarb & Ginger.
The 4% abv drinks – which are vegan and weigh in at 89 calories – were made using real tea leaves, which had been cold brewed for 24 hours (rsp: £2/250ml).
They would “resonate with a new generation of RTD consumers” and provide an “exciting opportunity for retailers as we enter the summer season”, said Twistea.
Whilst new to the UK market, alcoholic tea was already “an established and growing category in the US”, it added.
Following on from the success of hard seltzers, alcoholic tea was set to be the “next big trend” in the UK as consumers, “particularly millennials”, were looking for “lighter alternatives that are less sweet than established RTDs, but still deliver on taste”.
Broadland Drinks marketing director Fran Draper said iced tea was “already a firm favourite in the UK, with coffee shop chains such as Starbucks and Costa offering evolving ranges of flavoured iced teas”.
Twistea had been developed “to offer consumers a fresh experience, while providing retailers with a strong category opportunity to increase sales”, Draper added.
