Colgate has launched an aluminium toothbrush in a bid to appeal to shoppers looking to cut down on plastic.
Called the Link Replaceable Head Toothbrush, it has an aluminium handle that consumers can “use and reuse for a lifetime”, said Colgate.
Link is claimed to use 80% less plastic than a regular manual brush, “providing an easy solution for consumers looking for simple ways to reduce plastic waste”.
Each starter kit comes with two replaceable brush heads and one aluminium handle, available in silver or navy (rsp: £20).
The outer packaging is made with 60% recycled content.
Two-pack refill kits of the brush heads are available in two bristle variants: Deep Clean and Whitening (rsp: £7). They feature a cheek and tongue cleaner for a “whole mouth clean”, said Colgate.
Colgate-Palmolive’s VP & GM for Colgate-Northern Europe Taylor Gordy said “helping to look after the planet” through “superior technology” was a priority.
“Not only has this product been born from clever design and innovation, it also represents a really exciting step forward for Colgate as a brand on our sustainability journey.”
The toothbrushes have rolled into Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose, Amazon and Superdrug.
The launch follows the unveiling of “the first ever” recyclable toothpaste tube by Colgate Palmolive in January, packaged in high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the widely recycled plastic used to make milk bottles.
