Erdinger Weissbräu is expanding its low & no offering with a grapefruit-flavoured alcohol-free beer.

Its Alkoholfrei Grapefruit is billed as a “slightly bitter” wheat beer with a “refreshingly tangy taste”.

The NPD was pink in colour “with a little cloudiness and a delicately rosé-tinted head”, said the brand.

It was isotonic, had 25 calories per 100ml and contained vitamins B9, B12 and C, which promoted “normal functioning of the body’s immune system”, it added.

The drink contains all-natural ingredients, without any artificial additives or preservatives, and is available to order online at beerhunter.co.uk. It will roll into selected Asda stores from 9 September (rsp: £3.50-£16/4-12x330ml).

“With the continued interest in alcohol-free drinks we are passionate about bringing an exciting and enjoyable new product to the UK market,” said Erdinger Weissbräu country manager Peter Gowans.

The launch was “underpinned by the reputation, quality and reliability of Erdinger, the largest family-owned wheat beer brewery”, Gowans added.

It comes after Carlsberg CEO Cees ‘t Hart announced plans to grow the brewer into non-alcoholic, soft and fermented drinks like kombucha last October.

William Reed – the publisher of The Grocer – runs a trade show exclusively for the low & non-alcoholic drinks industry. For more information visit low2nobev.com
