Lactalis McLelland is to bring back its Seriously Melting Pot, having recalled the range last December due to safety concerns.
The glass-potted melted cheese line (rsp: £2.50/140g) will return with the same recipe and its two original variants - Scottish Cheddar and Roasted Onion.
The former will roll out into Waitrose at the end of September, with both variants confirmed for listings in Asda and Ocado later in the year.
It comes nine months after the product was removed from shelves over fears its glass packaging could break while being heated.
While the original pot was ‘microwave safe’, the relaunched version is only suitable for oven cooking. It will come in a redesigned and fully recyclable glass pot from a different glass supplier, Lactalis McLelland said.
“In December 2018, we took the precautionary measure to temporarily remove Seriously Melting Pots from sale whilst we reviewed our packaging,” said Lactalis McLelland sales director Mike Chatters.
“We have now updated our packaging and heating instructions in line with consumer feedback and are pleased to reintroduce the product.”
When the product launched last October, Lactalis said it wanted to bring the mass-market appeal of cheddar to a product format more typically associated with continental cheese such as camembert. It was named the cheese category’s ‘Top Launch’ in The Grocer’s 2018 Top Products Survey, praised for filling a gap in the market with “oodles of melted cheese”.
