Linda McCartney’s has joined the plant-based pizza trend with the addition of three chilled options.
Made with a sourdough base, the vegetarian trio features toppings made from the brand’s existing meat substitutes. Set to roll out to Sainsbury’s from 10 October, the variants are Chicken & Pesto; Arrabbiata Chicken, Chorizo & Chilli; and Spicy Beef & Jalapeño (rsp: £5/405g-425g).
The new range came in response to “consumer feedback that vegetarian pizzas were uninspiring” said Nadine Maggi, managing director at Linda McCartney’s.
Set to enter a chilled pizza category “worth £512m and enjoying strong growth” according to Maggi, it follows a number of recent meat-free pizza launches by brands such as Pizza Express, Oumph and White Rabbit. Later this month, Dr Oetker Ristorante Pizza will roll out two veggie variants, Pesto and Royale, produced in partnership with Quorn.
