Sambazon has launched a line of frozen ready-to-eat açai bowls in fully recyclable plant-based packaging.
Two flavours – Amazon Superberry and Berry Bliss – have rolled into Whole Foods Market (rsp: £3.49/173g) and will soon be listed on Deliveroo.
The smoothie bowls, which thaw “in minutes”, feature a blend of wild-harvested Fairtrade açai with granola toppings.
They were high in antioxidants and healthy omegas, and naturally low in sugar, claimed Sambazon.
Berry Bliss also contained probiotics, making it “a positive choice for those looking for ways to improve their gut health”, it added.
Sambazon claimed it was the first brand in the category to launch 100% plant-based packaging – with the bowl, film, and adhesive used all individually certified as recyclable.
The bowls – which were made mostly from repurposed scrap paper – had a two-chamber structure, meaning they could stand on a shelf or lay flat in a glass freezer, it added.
They launched in the US last year and had proven “extremely popular with a family audience and those seeking healthy options on the go”, Sambazon claimed.
Sambazon MD Mari Laidlaw said consumers and stockists were looking “to brands to show creativity and leadership when it comes to developing healthy and sustainable products”.
The brand had “ambitious plans to roll out the product nationwide in the future along with more unique flavour choices”, Laidlaw added.
