Upmarket sauce brand Sauce Shop is moving into cooking sauces.
The brand has created a trio of stir-in sauces: Special Makhani, Mother Tomato and Ranchero, which can be used either as sauce bases or by themselves (rsp: £2.99/430g).
Mother Tomato contained “ripened tomatoes, a hint of garlic and a familiar hum of herbs” and could be used over pasta or as a base for Italian sauces, said the brand, while Special Makhani was “the perfect North Indian curry base” matching tomato with butter, cream, fenugreek and chilli.
Ranchero, meanwhile, was ideal “for enlivening the most basic of eggs for weekend brunch dishes” it added.
They are billed as offering “quality-driven alternatives to ready-made cooking sauces”, which the brand said were “often packed with sugar, stabilisers and thickeners”.
They are available directly from Sauce Shop online.
It comes as sales of the small brand have risen steadily over the past year.
Its 10 bestselling SKUs (Ketchup, Buffalo Hot Sauce, Mayo, Original BBQ, Habanero Hot, South Carolina BBQ, Cherry Bourbon BBQ, Smoky Chipotle Ketchup, Green Sriracha and Amarillo Hot) added a combined £677k to their value, hitting £846k [Nielsen 52 w/e 5 September 2020].
