Herbs and spices stalwart Schwartz has ventured into gravy with a trio of new products.
The Beef, Chicken and Onion gravies were “expertly blended by Schwartz culinary chefs and master flavour developers”, it said.
Each is free from preservatives and monosodium glutamate (MSG), and features a selection of Schwartz’s “signature herbs and spices”.
They have rolled into Tesco, Asda, Ocado and Amazon (rsp: £2.75/155g).
The innovation was based on the insight that Brits were “no longer content with gravy straight out of the box”, said Schwartz.
A survey of 2,000 people conducted by OnePoll for Schwartz found that half (49%) of shoppers used current gravy offerings as a base before adding their own ingredients at home.
Schwartz marketing vice president Chris Nelson said he was “excited to launch a range of gravies with a boatload of flavour for any occasion”.
The Schwartz team took to the streets of Oxford – where 41% of residents surveyed claimed to “love” gravy – to put the new range to the test.
It asked to blind taste test its new Schwartz Signature Chicken Gravy against a leading competitor.
According to Nelson, Britain was “without doubt a nation of gravy lovers, so when launching our new gravy, we knew we had to call in the experts to give it the seal of approval – and what better people to ask than the residents of the UK’s ‘gravy capital’, Oxford?”
