Unilever has expanded its portfolio of Pot Noodle instant meals, introducing the Asian Street Style sub-brand.
Thai Red Curry, Malaysian Laksa, Japanese Miso Noodle Soup and Vietnamese Beef Pho (rsp: £1.75/56g-70g) are rolling out now - designed to satisfy Brits’ “growing appetite for flavours from across the globe” according to Unilever.
Made with rice noodles, the quartet would also “appeal to health-conscious shoppers” the supplier said. Each variant is low in fat and provides under 250 calories per pot (446kcals per 100g).
The packaging is fully recyclable, comprising an aluminium lid on a clear plastic pot with a cardboard sleeve.
Asian Street Style comes after Unilever revived the Pot Rice sub-brand last July after a 15-year hiatus. In summer 2017, the Anglo-Dutch supplier extended Pot Noodle into pasta with Pot Pasta.
“Hectic lifestyles mean food has to fit around jam-packed schedules, so it’s no wonder food-to-go is experiencing such rapid growth,” said Lena Portchmouth, brand lead for mini meals at Unilever.
Busy consumers were “no longer satisfied with a sandwich or salad at lunchtime” she added. “Instead, they’re looking to try a variety of flavours.”
