Casual dining brand Zizzi is to make its grocery debut in Sainsbury’s as part of the retailer’s Future Brands project.
The restaurant chain has created a trio of frozen pizzas based on the ‘rustica’ pizza option from its menus, which are due to launch in 307 Sainsbury’s across the UK from 13 September.
They are: Piccante Pepperoni, Margherita Classic and Vegan Jackfruit Pepperoni (rsp: £4.50).
The pizzas were made with “premium restaurant-quality ingredients” such as Italian grain leavened dough, said Zizzi, and come with a mini chilli or basil oil to drizzle on them once cooked.
It marked the start of plans “to make retail an important part of [Zizzi’s] business” and was “accelerated in response to an increase in demand for in-home occasions because of lockdown in the UK”.
“With recent events many more consumers are opting for options that gives them flexibility and allows them to recreate restaurant experiences at home,” said Sainsbury’s buyer Natasha Metcalf.
It’s not the only restaurant brand looking to supermarkets for growth – Sainsbury’s made headlines last year when it partnered with healthy fast food chain Leon to launch a branded grocery range, which has since been expanded into new categories and in-store bakeries.
