Sainsbury's online shopping service is shutting its picking centre in Gorton, Manchester.
A spokeswoman said the depot was being closed because the chain's stores in Manchester had been reinvigorated and were now capable of offering the picking service. The depot will close in late summer.
But the spokeswoman said Sainsbury was still committed to using a combination of instore picking and, where necessary, dedicated centres to fulfil orders placed via its online service.
And she stressed there were no plans to shut the Park Royal centre in London, saying stores in the capital were generally too small to be able to cope with picking.
