2 Sisters Food Group has completed a £10m upgrade of its ready meals facility in South Wales.
The food manufacturing giant has added a dedicated Far East ‘pod’ to its Rogerstone Park site – with a new automated coating line and updated cooling technology that promises a greater variety of meal options with improved consistency and better quality. The new in-line cooling system has also reduced the site’s environmental footprint.
The ‘pod’ would serve as the “foundation for sustained growth and momentum for the business’ meal solutions division”, said 2 Sisters, which has committed to a lean manufacturing programme throughout the site.
Built in 1999 and bought by 2 Sisters in 2012, Rogerstone Park is Europe’s biggest single-site ready meals facility in Europe, employing about 1,500 people and supplying customers including Marks & Spencer.
The supplier’s MD for meal solutions, Simon Wookey, added: “The significant investment in Rogerstone will lay the foundations for the future and acknowledges the loyalty and capability of our colleagues in South Wales.
“We are investing millions in our factories and embedding a cross-functional lean culture to deliver a gold standard performance.”
