Fancy yourself as a bit of a football player? Want to show off your silky skills on a national stage? Think you and your mates are good enough to be crowned the best team in the business?

Then it's time you entered the 2006 Primula Cup - the national five-a-side competition in aid of Caravan, the trade's welfare charity.

The event - which is sponsored by Primula, Coca-Cola, The Grocer and United Biscuits - takes place at the JJB Soccerdome in Manchester on July 15. Places are limited, so you need to book quickly to ensure that your team has a chance of being at this key sporting event for the grocery industry (forget the World Cup, that's so yesterday!)

As well as the fun of battling for glory, all the teams that enter are featured in the pages of The Grocer, which publishes a full report of the day's proceedings.

Last year's event attracted teams from across the trade, with Arla, Brakes, Batleys, Cadbury, Coca-Cola, The Co-operative Group, Diageo, Iceland, Lowrie's, Somerfield, Unilever and Waitrose among those taking part. The competition was eventually won by Greencore Grocery, beating Buckingham Foods in a gruelling final game to be crowned the best footballers in the industry.

Paul Lewney, commercial director of Kavli, which owns headline sponsor brand Primula, says: "As a charitable trust ourselves, Kavli are delighted to be working with Caravan to support this event for third year, as we help to raise awareness of the charity."
