Plans to axe the 3.4% abv Heineken Cold Filtered lager brand in the UK should be unveiled in September. The Dutch brewing giant has made no final decision but said the brand is likely to go by the end of 2003.
The UK is the only place in the world where Heineken is sold at this strength, everywhere else it is at 5% abv, and the brewer has made no secret of the fact that it wants to re-establish Heineken's premium credentials in this country.
A spokeswoman for the brewer said: "Years ago it was a good decision to launch it at 3.4% in the UK, but we are not happy with it now and we want to reposition it in the UK."
