Unilever UK Foods is spending £5m on promoting PG Tips and introducing the brand’s first limited edition product as part of plans to celebrate the tea’s 75th anniversary.
PG Tips Special Blend Limited Edition Tea - a blend of Kenyan and Ceylon teas - will be available in both loose tea and pyramid bags. A commemorative metal caddy will come free with standard packs of PG Tips 160s, while all PG Tips pyramid packs will carry limited edition 75th birthday artwork, featuring examples of the brand’s packaging through the ages.
The innovations aim to add value to the tea category and encourage consumers to re-evaluate the fixture.
“The PG Tips brand has an incredibly strong heritage, which has made it one of the best loved tea brands in Britain,” said David Irwin, business manager at Unilever UK Foods. “The 75th anniversary is a great opportunity for us to remind people of this.”
The £5m marketing support package will include a new TV campaign, along with poster and print advertising.
