Co-op challenged
n The Co-op faces a possible legal challenge from Scottish detergent company Aquados which claims the retailer's new soluble Powder Pods sachets infringe its patent.
n The product has again put the Co-op ahead of category leaders Lever Fabergé and Procter & Gamble in detergents. It beat both to liquid capsules in 2001 with the launch of Brio Actipods.
n Aquados, which launched a powder in a soluble sachet two years ago, claimed its patent covered all combinations of powder and dissolvable film.
biscuit for veterans
n McVitie's has brought two of the UK's veteran food brands to the biscuit fixture with the launch of Tate & Lyle's Golden Syrup and Black Treacle Creams.
n The duo, which the company predicted would deliver £2m in the first year, is aimed at consumers aged over 45.
n Links between the two companies date back more than two decades to the launch of McVitie's Cake Company's Golden Syrup cakes.

slices of variety
n Independent bakery Rathbones has come up with a bread pack offering variety to single people and smaller households.
n The concept, set for launch in Tesco in three months, will contain four types of bread likely to be white, brown, oatmeal and wholemeal.

Daisy's answer
n A new brand of organic babyfood called Fresh Daisy offers a point of difference over rival products because it is frozen and pasteurised rather than ambient and sterilised.
n The range is selling through delicatessens in London and East Anglia and there are plans to expand.
