The shortlists for The Grocer Gold Awards 2004 have been announced.
Curley’s, Jacksons Stores, Alfred Jones and Metro have all been shortlisted for best independent retail chain.
In the category for best consumer initiative, the Co-operative Group, Cranstons, Sainsbury, Somerfield and Tesco will be fighting it out to secure the top prize.
And Aberness, Big Food Group, Landmark Cash and Carry and United Co-ops have been shortlisted for the best business initiative award.
There was a huge number of entries in the category for best own label range development, and from them the judges shortlisted Asda, Boots, Nisa-Today’s, Tesco, Thresher and Waitrose.
Meanwhile, Birds Eye Steamfresh Vegetables, Bisc& , Heartily Healthy cheese, Heinz Microwaveable Soup Cups and Lakeland Willow Spring Water are the shortlisted innovations for the award for best new product development by a branded supplier.
The Grocer drew on the knowledge of experts from across the fmcg and retail worlds.
Julian Hunt, editor of The Grocer, said: “Our judges faced an incredibly difficult task deciding on the finalists.
“Our shortlists this year provide an excellent showcase for some of the great initiatives under way across the grocery sector and, once again,
they demonstrate that ours remains an incredibly diverse and vibrant industry.”
In addition, we last week unveiled the companies on the shortlist for the award for best branded supplier. And earlier this month, we also revealed those who will be competing for the award for best own label supplier. Winners of all the awards will be revealed at a business dinner at London’s Dorchester Hotel on June 16.
The Grocer Gold Awards are sponsored by software solutions company MEI, enterprise software provider Geac and consultants KPMG.
