Abel & Cole has extended its reach into the south east following the purchase of a new delivery depot in Kent.
The online organic retailer will use the 5,000 sq ft Aylesford depot to reach customers in Kent, East Sussex and south east London. Although it has previously delivered to parts of the region from its Wimbledon depot, not all areas were accessible and food miles had been a concern.
The company said it would begin looking for local farmers to supply it in the south east.
Aylesford is Abel & Cole's seventh distribution depot, and about 40 jobs are expected to be created over the next three years.
"Having this delivery base in Kent will mean a large number of new customers will benefit from our organic boxes," said regional depot manager Nicholas Cannell.
Earlier this year Abel & Cole outlined ambitious plans to extend its reach across the country, and floated the possibility of a move into physical stores.
