Scottish Mace wholesaler Aberness is preparing to launch a new food to go concept in the coming weeks which can be tailored to suit stores in different locations.
Marketing manager Carol Wilson said: "This area has enormous potential, and not just in city locations. There is a lot of passing trade in some rural locations."
The Café Convenience concept introduced into a couple of stores last year is not flexible enough to adapt to the needs of retailers with stores of varying sizes in contrasting locations, she explained.
Details of the new concept are still being finalised, but it can include anything from hot curries and full meal solutions to coffee and light snacks, said Wilson.
The group has been carefully researching the customer base of each store to see how the package can be tailored to cater for local clientèle, said Wilson. Initially trialled in company owned stores, it will be offered to independents if it proves successful.
- The company has also changed its name from Aberness Foods to Aberness, to better reflect the activities of the group, which is a retailer and distributor of food and not a producer, said md Stanley Morrice. "This presents a clarity of identity to customers and the trade."
