Expert's verdict:... 10/25
?The packaging of Aspall Apple Balsamic Vinegar is aiming for a traditional feel but merely manages to look dated. The bottle would benefit from a pouring mechanism to regulate usage. The aroma is strong and vinegary and overwhelms the cidery smell of apples. These were more in evidence in the flavour, which is relatively sweet at first. However, the vinegar taste soon overpowers the flavour of any food it is served with. This is frankly disappointing.

?I love all things vinegary and have also been known to drink a fair bit of cider over the years, so for me the introduction to Aspall Apple Balsamic Vinegar was great news. I was not disappointed when I tasted the product, which I found to be delicious. It has a lovely sweet apple flavour and a mellow sourness with a sharp cidery kick at the finish. It is also a very versatile product that can be used as a salad dressing, a balsamic or even as a dip. My only complaint is the packaging, which was uninspiring.Shanna Johnson, account manager, Kingston, Surrey
