The consumer
The timing of delivery was impeccable. With hot weather and England versus Mexico on the TV, it was just the ticket. I find that I am usually put off the leading brands of cider because of excessive acidity and gassiness, but found this to be a perfect balance.

I can see a great shelf life for this product well beyond the World Cup. Well done Henney's - I will be stocking up. Four stars

The retailer
A nice golden colour in a clear glass bottle, with a striking label that gives this an instant appeal for the summer of football. The taste was right down the middle, not too sweet or dry, with a very subtle flavour of apples. A very refreshing drink ideal with outside summer food and not just as an accessory to the World Cup. The Grocer
There's only one red and white-coloured emblem gripping the fmcg industry right now and I don't mean Coca-Cola. The flag of St George is adorning everything from ice cream to barbecue tongs at the moment, but a quintessentially English offering like a cider from a small supplier in Bishops Frome seems a more suitable fit for the Cross.

The liquid was pleasingly tart, owing to the English bittersweet apples, and its low carbonation meant the bottle was sunk very quickly. This is not a cider to be poured over ice, in my book. At £1.79, England's Pride is slightly cheaper than other premium ciders. It deserves to stay on shelf well after Fabio's hopefuls return from South Africa. Four stars
