The consumer
This sunscreen stood up well to the test of a week's holiday in the south of France, during which my pale skin was well-protected both in and out of the sea. But in spite of the added tan-enhancing extract, I couldn't discern any extra bronzing and remained my usual pale self.

On the positive side, the cream was easily absorbed with no residue left on hands, meaning I could get back to reading my book. While I would happily buy a Nivea sunscreen again, I would give products claiming to boost the tanning process a miss. Four stars (out of five)

The retailer
I used the product on a recent holiday to Spain. I'm fair skinned so Factor 30 was ideal for me. The cream was light and non greasy and lasted for ages. It covered well and apart from the bits I missed my skin didn't burn. Towards the end of the week I did develop a bit of a tan, but it seemed to take a while to happen. It is hard to say whether I would have got a better tan had I used another sun cream. Three stars

The Grocer
This should be a hit with women who don't want to choose between a tan and healthy skin. However, the packaging could be sexier and it may struggle in the market, especially as it's a few pounds dearer than some rivals.

At first glance, the products appeared to be fake tan, so the messaging could be clearer. The cream is nice and lightweight though, it absorbs easily and is not greasy. Three stars
