Taboo
COMPANY: First Drinks
RSP: £7.89
Expert’s verdict 6/10
The recent general brand repackaging works well for Taboo in appealing to the target consumer. The Ruby variant is a very attractive mid-ruby colour that has good visual appeal on its own and will provide an excellent colour base as a mixer. It was on taste that this fell down for me. I struggled to get past a cherry flavour that was on the wrong side of cloyingly sweet. It was better when mixed, but still did not appeal. I don’t see the new look bringing new consumers into the brand, although it will help to keep the current consumer base interested.

Consumer’s verdict7/10
The bottle is attractive to look at and it would certainly stand out on the shelf but unfortunately it isn’t immediately obvious what type of drink it is. If I were to guess I’d say it was a pre-mixed cocktail, rather than a shot. It smells really good and the taste is clean and much stronger than you would imagine. I’m not sure I would drink this is as short but it is ideal as a mixer in a cocktail or with soda water or lemonade, which is how I had it. At £7.89, I’d definitely buy it to take to a BBQ or a party.

Argento Rosé
COMPANY:
Argento Wine Company
LAUNCH PRICE: £5.99
TODAY’S PRICE: £5.99
This first pink offering from Argentinian brand Argento was launched as a heavier-style of rosé – perfect for the British Summer, said general manager Amelia Nolan at the time. It was the first of several new brand additions, in an ongoing strategy in the coming year to make the brand a one-stop-shop for Argentina, Nolan said. “We are extending the brand to include a more premium wine, Artesano de Argento, rsp £8.99, and have introduced other brands,” she added.
