A supplier is hoping to take African ‘superfruit’ baobab mainstream with a range of fruit pulp products.
The three-strong Aduna brand, which will be available from June, comprises a powder for cooking, an on-the-go stick format and capsules (rsp: £17.99/170g powder, and £24.99 for 30x4.5g sticks or 90 capsules). Baobab contains up to six times the vitamin C content of oranges and twice the calcium content of milk.
Aduna claimed the launch was the first concerted UK push to establish baobab, which received EU Novel Foods approval in 2009.
“Investment in baobab products has been limited, and consumer awareness remains low,” said company co-founder Andrew Hunt. “It has tended to get lost among a sea of supplements.”
The company has also developed functional baobab food and a drink products, which it hopes to introduce to market following a clinical trial this summer.
