Turkey producer Attwells has launched a range of turkey-based Caribbean-style ready meals under the RSPCA’s Freedom Food scheme.
Attwells managing director Mike Attwell said the Freedom Food farm assurance scheme - which focuses on welfare standards - offered real benefits to specialist companies seeking to market products under a high quality, buy-British banner.
He added: “It gives us a tangible advantage over competitors. Customers have welcomed the move because the quality and welfare standards are far higher than for conventionally reared birds.”
The move meant Attwells, which supplies the Co-operative Group and independent retailers, had now adopted Freedom Food for its entire production process, from hatchery to processing, he said.
Attwells also supplies Freedom Food whole birds, breast joints and cut-ups.
The company’s range for this Christmas has just been unveiled.
