Aldi has launched a new viral Christmas ad that spoofs the Queen’s speech.
The ‘Jean’s Speech’ ad, which debuted on Aldi’s Facebook page earlier this week, features 85-year-old Aldi customer Jean Jones as she discusses the discount retailer’s 2013 highlights while talking up its alcohol range.
Jones made her debut for Aldi back in 2011 in an ad in which she promoted Aldi’s tea range. The advert went on to win Nielsen’s favourite advert of the year award. “We know our customers love the humour of our adverts, and particularly love Jean,” said an Aldi spokesman.
“We’re sure they’ll enjoy seeing Jean return in this Christmas special, which we hope retains all the humour customers have come to expect from our ads but more importantly, also thanks them for all their support in 2013.”
Aldi, like discount rival Lidl, has focused most of its festive ads on premium food products this year. Its showpiece Christmas ads featured products including a leg of Serrano ham and fresh lobster tails.
