Aldi is to bring back its premium wagyu steak range in time for Father’s Day.
The retailer - which first launched the products in 2014 - will sell its Specially Selected Wagyu Ribeye Beef Steak (rsp: £7.29/227g) and Specially Selected Wagyu Sirloin Beef Steak (rsp: £7.29/227g) nationally from 16 June for a limited time.
Aldi said the range had been reintroduced due to customer demand. It is expecting interest in the steaks to be high, and has put a limit of two items per purchase on the product, with only 50,000 available.
The wagyu steaks are sourced from cattle that are bred and 100% grass-fed on open New Zealand pastures to give the meat “a distinctive rich flavour and texture” Aldi said.
“By sourcing from only the finest wagyu producers in New Zealand, Aldi continues to offer unique and premium quality at everyday low prices, providing customers with significant savings without compromise,” added Tony Baines, the retailer’s joint MD of corporate buying.
With the retailer also selling 1.5 million Specially selected beef burgers over the past 12 months, it was now set to become the largest retailer of wagyu beef in the UK, it claimed.
