Aldi wants children across the country to design a poster discouraging food waste, and will pick winners to receive a £250 voucher.

The discounter is running a competition to mark Food Waste Action Week, from 17-23 March, and will put the winning entries on display at its headquarters in Atherstone.

The competition is open from today (10 March), with parents and teachers able to submit children’s entries via email to foodwastecomp@aldi.co.uk.

A panel of Aldi’s sustainability experts will choose one winner per region from England, Scotland and Wales. Each winner will be contacted by 31 March and sent a £250 voucher for their family to spend in store.

The competition is part of Aldi’s programme to encourage young people to eat healthily, dubbed ‘Get Set to Eat Fresh’, and run in partnership with Team GB and ParalympicsGB.

“We’re committed to reducing food waste and this competition is a great opportunity to show children how important of an issue this is,” said Aldi national sustainability director Luke Emery.

“We can’t wait to see the creative designs that everyone comes up with, and we hope the competition can inspire the next generation to think more about how everyday changes can make a big difference.”
