Aldi store

Aldi has donated more than 100 fridges to charities and food banks across the UK to help increase the range of food they can stock.

The discounter said it had repurposed fridges from its stores to give extra storage for organisations supporting those in need this winter.

Charities being helped include the likes of Neighbourly, FareShare and City Harvest. Further fridges are set to be donated in the new year.

It follows new research from Neighbourly showing 64% of the food redistribution charities and causes it supports would benefit from additional fridges or freezers for food storage.

“Winter is a busy period for food banks and other charitable organisations that support those most in need, said Luke Emery, Aldi UK national sustainability director.

“At Aldi, our aim is for fresh, healthy food to be accessible to all, and we know that food storage can often be an issue for these charitable organisations.

“We’re proud to be working on this initiative with our redistribution partners, which runs alongside our ongoing surplus food donation programme in stores across the UK.”
