Aldi set to donate £1m to fund apprenticeship schemes at small to medium-sized business across the country this year.
Some of the money will go to nationwide not-for-profit Management Development Services (MDS), which offers leadership training opportunities in the food supply industry.
Training organisation Total People and Aldi’s principal apprenticeship provider, Lifetime, will also receive funding.
All donated funds will be used to support apprenticeship schemes at small to medium-sized businesses. Sectors to benefit will include early years education, operations management, hospitality and health and social care.
Aldi has donated £1.7m of Apprenticeship Levy funding to date, including to MDS.
“Apprenticeships play a crucial part not only in our sector, but in helping people across the UK, at all levels, reach their full potential,” said Aldi UK learning & development director Lisa Murphy.

“Last year, we recruited over 150 of our own apprentices across our store, logistics and national buying teams, and enrolled over 50 existing colleagues on to apprenticeship programmes to help them gain industry-recognised qualifications and develop their skills through practical hands-on experience.
“We’re really excited to see how our £1m investment will be used by businesses in the communities we serve to help people gain employment and develop new skills.”
Aldi also recently kicked off its own biggest-ever apprenticeship intake, with plans to recruit for over 500 roles across the UK this year.
The supermarket is offering opportunities in stores, logistics and buying, as well as HGV driving.
