Aldi is donating proceeds of tomato sales to the Teenage Cancer Trust for two weeks.
The proceeds of 220g Specially Selected Piccolato Tomatoes sold between 2 June and 15 June will go toward supporting young people aged 13 to 24 diagnosed with cancer. An estimated £25,000 is expected to be raised to fund specialist nurses, youth support co-ordinators and Teenage Cancer Trust units in NHS hospitals across the UK.
Aldi has partnered with the Teenage Cancer Trust since 2017 and raised more than £11m to date through customer donations, staff-led fundraising, and cause-related marketing activity.
In July 2020, after surpassing an initial £5m target ahead of schedule, Aldi pledged to raise £10m by 2027. With that target now also surpassed early, the discounter is aiming for £15m by 2027.
“Tomatoes are a staple for many of our customers, so this is a simple but powerful way for people to get involved and help make a difference to young people across the country,” said Aldi UK chief commercial officer Julie Ashfield.
“We’re committed to giving back to the communities we serve, and we’re proud to help Teenage Cancer Trust continue its incredible work supporting young people and their families during an incredibly tough time.”
Teenage Cancer Trust senior partnership manager Michelle Aucott said: “Every penny we receive makes a huge difference to young people with cancer and their loved ones.
“Aldi colleagues and customers have gone above and beyond for Teenage Cancer Trust so we can ensure young people with cancer aged 13 to 24 receive the sensitive, individual care and support they need.”
