Aldi has bolstered its ‘light’ booze offer by adding a quartet of low-alcohol, low-calorie own-label wine.
The discounter has added a Chilean merlot, a white zinfandel rosé, a Chilean sauvignon blanc and an Italian pinot grigio under new brand Featherweight. They each have an abv of 5.5% and contain 52 to 59 calories per 125ml glass (rsp: £2.99/75cl). The merlot is available nationwide, while the rest of the range is available in selected stores.
Aldi had seen “a real appetite from wine drinkers in the UK for lower-calorie and abv wines to moderate their alcohol intake”, said Aldi joint managing director of corporate buying Tony Baines.
