Aldi is launching a pigs in blanket delivery service, serving up its latest range including cheese and ‘foot-long’ vegan options to customers’ doors.
However, only select customers will be able to use the service, which is to run for one day only this Saturday (30 November) and only in the E2 postcode area of London.
Those within the specified delivery zone can book a delivery within a one-hour slot between 5pm and 9pm, for a £5 charge.
Aldi said it had hired its own delivery staff and vehicles to fulfil the orders and all proceeds from the delivery charge would go to food redistribution charity Neighbourly.
For the rest of the country, Aldi is also giving away 30,000 pigs in blankets nationwide. The discounter is promising £5 vouchers, exchangeable in store for up to 30 pigs in blankets, to the first 1,000 shoppers to email aldiPIBgiveaway@clarioncomms.co.uk with their name, age and address from 25 November.
The delivery service and giveaway marks the return for the second year in a row of a pop-up Aldi Pigs in Blankets Restaurant, on 29 November on Bethnal Green Road in Shoreditch. Tables can be booked via Eventbrite.
Last year saw 80% of tables booked within 24 hours of availability, according to Aldi.
“The response to our Pigs in Blankets Restaurant has been phenomenal, and we’ve listened to our customers who want a way to enjoy these festive favourites even if they can’t make it to the venue,” said Aldi UK buying MD Julie Ashfield.
“This UK-first service is our solution, delivering Aldi’s pigs in blankets experience directly to shoppers’ homes.”
It is not the first time Aldi has launched a delivery service as a marketing exercise. Last year it temporarily offered delivery of hot pizza in certain postcode areas in Manchester, Cardiff and Edinburgh, to coincide with university freshers’ week in October.
