Aldi is set to create 1,600 jobs as it opens new UK stores throughout 2025.
The discounter – which now has more than 1,050 stores, up by about 10 since December – said the jobs would result from a previously announced plan to invest £650m in further expansion in 2025.
More new stores are due to open in the coming weeks in Moston in Greater Manchester, March in Cambridgeshire and Lytham in Lancashire, according to the discounter.
Roles available will include store manager, assistant store manager, deputy store manager, store assistant and cleaner.
Aldi also recently announced that from 1 March, its entry-level hourly rate for store workers would rise from £13.65 to £14 within the M25 and from £12.40 to £12.71 elsewhere in the UK. Aldi already pays sector-leading store worker rates, and the new rates are higher than those offered by any other UK supermarket. They come on top of paid breaks, which Aldi says are worth about £1,370 a year to the average store worker.
“Our store colleagues are the best in the business and, as we continue to expand our store network and provide more customers with access to Aldi’s high-quality, affordable products, we’re going to need to grow those store teams with even more amazing people,” said Aldi UK HR director Kelly Stokes.
“We are committed to creating rewarding careers and offering market-leading pay for all our store colleagues. This year promises to be an exciting year as we bring even more Aldi stores to local communities across Britain.”
