Aldi has recalled its own-label vegetarian bao buns because they contain undeclared sesame and duck meat.
The product – Vegetable Bao Buns (eight-pack) – which sits under Aldi’s Let’s Party range is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to sesame. All date codes are impacted.
Aldi has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
It has also issued a point-of-sale notice to shoppers, advising them to return the impacted product to their nearest store for a full refund.
A spokesman for Aldi said: “Our supplier is recalling Let’s Party Vegetable Bao Buns due to an error meaning some products contain an undeclared allergen (sesame) as well as duck meat which is not listed on the packaging.
“Anyone who bought this product should return it to their nearest store for a full refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
It comes after the Food Standards Agency last week lifted its advice for peanut allergy sufferers to avoid eating foods that contain or may contain mustard.
An investigation was launched after a swathe of products containing Indian-sourced mustard powder supplied by FGS Ingredients were recalled due to contamination risk.
However, the investigation closed at the end of last week as the regulatory body was satisfied that “all necessary food safety measures have been put in place”.
