Aldi has ratcheted up its opening programme in the last two months of 2018 to make the most of the festive trading period.
The discounter is set to open 24 new stores during November and December including a record eight on one day, last Thursday (29 November).
These were in Islington, north London; Glasgow; Chellaston and Eckington, Derbyshire; Longridge, Lancashire; Oldham, Greater Manchester; Skelton, North Yorkshire; and Bodmin, Cornwall.
The new openings will take Aldi to 825 UK stores by the end of the year, after opening 70 during 2018. It has a target of 1,200 by 2025.
A further three stores will be upgraded as part of the Project Fresh refurbishment programme, at Dunstable, Bedfordshire; Snedshill, Shropshire; and Cramlington, Northumberland.
“We’ve stepped up our store opening programme in the run-up to Christmas so that more shoppers can enjoy fantastic quality products, at prices they can afford, throughout the festive period,” said Aldi UK chief executive Giles Hurley.
Aldi said its stores would stock the group’s “largest-ever” festive offering, comprising 500 items which included more than 200 premium Specially Selected and Exquisite lines, many of which had been sourced from the same suppliers at “more expensive” food retailers.
This year’s most popular premium products are expected to include the Specially Selected Three Little Pigs Wrapped in Bacon, Specially Selected Exquisite 1,000 Day Aged Gouda and the Specially Selected Exquisite Chocolate Carousel.
Hurley said: “With new stores opening right across the country, stocking our largest-ever festive range, we’re all set to help our customers enjoy an amazing Christmas.”
