Sales of Aldi’s Specially Selected own-label brand have risen by 25% in the past year to more than £600m, according to the discounter.
More than 3.5 million dry-aged steaks and over 1.25 million bottles of Champagne within the range have been sold so far this year and Aldi anticipates Specially Selected sales to surpass £750m in 2017.
Aldi also said it had grown its 2016 ‘Exquisite Christmas’ lineup by 11% to almost 200 products.
Tony Baines, Aldi’s joint MD of corporate buying, said people wanted to ‘treat’ their families and friends to luxury items at Christmas.
“Many shoppers are unaware they are spending more than they should for certain products sold by many retailers and supermarkets,” he said.
“At Aldi, many of our Specially Selected products are sourced from exactly the same suppliers as more expensive food retailers. And the good news is, our unbeatable prices are the lowest in Britain every day of the year, not just at Christmas.”
