Discount supermarket Aldi is investing £67m in upgrading its existing retail stores throughout 2025.
New in-store features will include improved bakery and health & beauty fixtures, as well as upgraded refrigeration units to reduce emissions.
The upgrades come as part of Aldi’s wider investment programme into the UK market, as it adds 30 new stores to its estate this year, at a cost of £650m. Key locations include Fulham Broadway in London, Billericay in Essex, and Cheadle in Stoke-on-Trent.
The discounter added a similar number of new stores last year, when it ploughed £800m into its ambitious UK expansion plans.
Investment into upgrading existing stores is similarly focused, with almost £600m already spent on in-store improvements since 2017. With the first phase of its store enhancement programme nearly complete, Aldi is now moving on to the next stage of the updates.

Initial store upgrades focused on creating a better experience for shoppers, providing more space for fresh, chilled and food-to-go ranges. Aldi also added simpler layouts, improved fixtures and energy-efficient LED lighting.
As well as improved bakery and health & beauty fixtures, upgrades being rolled out this year will include updated CO2 refrigeration systems. Aldi estimates that the carbon emission reduction from the completed programme will be equivalent to the amount used to heat more than 6,500 homes.
“Aldi’s £67m investment is a major step forward in our commitment to delivering an even better shopping experience for our customers across Britain,” said real estate managing director Jonathan Neale.
“Building on the success of our previous upgrades, we’re enhancing store layouts as part of our dedication to providing customers with more sustainable stores, convenience and an improved shopping experience nationwide.”
