Aldi is supporting future Olympic and Paralympic athletes in a partnership with charity SportsAid.
The discounter will provide financial support for 20 young athletes at the top of their field, as they work towards becoming an Olympian or Paralympian.
The supermarket’s support will also include quarterly training beyond sport, covering areas such as healthy eating, performance nutrition, mental wellbeing and media training.
The athletes, who span 17 sporting disciplines, will promote Aldi’s ‘Get Set to Eat Fresh’ campaign, which seeks to educate children on the importance of a healthy diet.
The SportsAid partnership builds on Aldi’s sponsorship of Team GB and ParalympicsGB, which sees them support Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
“Since 2015, we’ve been the official supermarket of Team GB, supporting them with helpful initiatives and keeping them fuelled, and we are proud to have also recently become the official partner of ParalympicsGB,” said Aldi UK marketing director Adam Zavalis.
“We’re pleased to be growing our support for British athletes by getting the next generation of promising young sportspeople on board and look forward to supporting them on their journey.”
SportsAid’s alumni include Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Sir Mo Farah, Baroness Grey-Thompson, Dame Sarah Storey, Sir Steve Redgrave, Dame Katherine Grainger, Denise Lewis, Dame Laura Kenny, Tom Daley, Ellie Simmonds, Dina Asher-Smith and Adam Peaty.
SportsAid CEO Tim Lawler said: “SportsAid is part of the fabric of British sport, providing personal development support, financial help and, crucially, national recognition to the country’s emerging sporting talent.
“The charity could not make the impact it does without the backing of partners such as Aldi, who understand the role they can play and are committed to making a lasting difference. There is always a next generation that needs our help and this new partnership with Aldi will help to make that happen.”
