Alpro is to flag up the fact it uses non-GM soya beans in its products with a new on-pack logo.
The addition of the logo will be the first time a certified non-GM mark has been used on a grocery line sold in the UK.
Certified by independent body Cert ID Europe, the logo confirms ProTerra Foundation certification. It also guarantees that the rights of workers and indigenous people have been protected, and the Amazon and other fragile areas have been preserved.
The addition of the logo reinforced Alpro’s commitment to sustainability via a recognised external body, said Alpro commercial director John Allaway.
The move comes as Alpro rolls out new-look packaging across its milk alternatives that features a bolder font for greater standout and a strapline making clear the nut milks are ‘made without soya’ to distinguish them from Alpro’s soya milks.
On Sunday, Alpro will launch a new milder soya milk for consumers new to dairy-free milk. Alpro Soya Simply Milk - in UHT format - is intended to meet growing demand for a purer, milder-tasting soya. It will launch into Sainsbury’s followed by Tesco and Morrisons in October (rsp: £1.29/litre).
