Alpro Soya has announced it is on track to meet the target it set last year to be carbon neutral by 2020.
The producer, which was crowned Green Supplier of the Year at The Grocer Gold Awards in June, said it would have saved a third of carbon dioxide emissions by the end of this year.
Reductions would come from using energy from wind and biomass power generation, achieving greater manufacturing efficiency and buying green electricity, it claimed.
“We achieved a 24% reduction in our first year,” said Alpro commercial director John Allaway. “This year we are on track to cut emissions by a further 9%, taking us to a 33% total. We are already active in community and ecology projects in various parts of the world, including a significant initiative to help the reforestation of the Mata Atlantica – Brazil’s ‘other’ rainforest.”
