Amazon has opened its Fresh grocery delivery service to more customers by doing away with a requirement to pay a £3.99 monthly subscription.
Instead, customers can choose to pay £2.99 per delivery from today (6 September).
The service is still only open to Amazon Prime members, who already pay a £79 annual subscription. The new option of paying per delivery, instead of another subscription fee on top of Prime membership, is likely to appeal to more occasional and first-time Amazon Fresh users.
The per delivery option, which Amazon is calling ‘on demand’, comes with a minimum basket value of £40.
The £3.99 monthly subscription option, which means unlimited free delivery of orders over £40, remains available.
Delivery times are unchanged, with scheduled one-hour slots available between 7am and 11pm, including the day of ordering.
Amazon Fresh offers a complete grocery range including meat, fruit & veg, bakery and dairy. Products are available from Morrisons, Whole Foods and Booths, as well as local shops and markets.
The delivery area is 302 postcodes across London and the south east, including Surrey, Hampshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
“We are constantly innovating on behalf of our customers to deliver the things we believe they will always care about - low prices, vast selection, and fast delivery,” said Amazon Fresh UK country manager Russell Jones.
“By offering an on-demand option as part of our Amazon Fresh service, Prime members have even more flexibility when it comes to doing their weekly shop online.”
