The Edinburgh store is to sell products from Scottish companies, including homeware suppliers

Amazon opened its first Clicks and Mortar shop in Scotland, the third in the UK, at the weekend.

Two other Amazon pop-up stores have opened, in Manchester and Cardiff, since June. The third is in Edinburgh’s Waverley Mall.

The shops offer products from third-party Amazon sellers, including electronic goods, fashion, homewares and food and drink.

Another seven are still to come in a year-long trial in partnership with small business network and business support provider Enterprise Nation. The aim is to give online retailers a vital first step onto the high street, according to Amazon.

The Edinburgh store is to sell products from Scottish companies, including homeware suppliers.

“From giving up-and-coming online businesses the chance to experience physical retail for the first time, to funding the training of full-time apprenticeships and helping to increase SME exports, Amazon is committed to supporting the growth of small businesses in Scotland - helping them boost the economy and create jobs,” said Amazon UK country manager Doug Gurr.

Enterprise Nation founder Emma Jones said: “As well as providing these small online businesses with a physical space to trade for the first time, we’ll have advisers on hand from Scottish Enterprise to offer free advice on how to scale their businesses, both offline and online.

“We feel it’s important to ensure Clicks and Mortar stores benefit not just the small firms and their customers, but also the wider local economy.”
