Ambient pasta sauces have been hit by the price war, The Grocer research has revealed.
Value sales have fallen 4.2% to £319.9m as base price deflation and increased promotions take their toll, while volumes are up 2.4% year on year [Kantar Worldpanel 52 w/e 19 July 2015]. In contrast, value sales of chilled sauces are up 3.7% to £45m, benefiting from consumers thinking just ‘one meal ahead’.
